Tourism - chaired by Court Dowis, this committee's duties are to collaborate with hotel, restaurant and
tourism members, as well as the Pine Mountain Visitors Center and other county and regional tourism allies,
to develop and execute a professionally conceived county-wide marketing plan that will measurably improve
desirable tourism in Harris County while leveraging our common interests and resources.
Governmental Affairs - chaired by Jenny Eckman, this committee will continuously monitor and identify legislative and public policy issues of interest to Harris County businesses and actively communicate with Chamber membership on the implications of these issues for them; and cultivate relationships with leaders and decision makers in government, education, civic and community groups, planning groups and the press in order to maintain access and to represent the business perspective on policy issues, as appropriate.
Membership Committee - chaired by Peggy Lyda, this committee will focus on developing and executing a plan to increase membership to at least 90% of organizations doing business in Harris County; developing and executing a plan to enlist increased member involvement in the Chamber; and to review the structure of the Board of Directors to better enlist director involvement and participation in Chamber leadership.Call the Chamber at 706-628-0010 to leave a message for her.
Economic and Community Development - chaired by Calvin Leverett, this committee works with defining the economic and community development vision and goals for the county which best represent Harris County business interests, including public policy, zoning, taxation, residential development, airport (air transport), infrastructure and public services goals; actively engages in the development and implementation of the Harris County strategic development planning process to represent the business perspective; attends and participates in meetings and forums where issues of importance to economic and community development are considered in order to represent the business perspective; provides advice, analysis, staff support and other information helpful to policy makers on issues of importance to business and economic development; cultivates strategic partnerships with groups that share common interests with us, such as the Valley Partnership and other Chambers of Commerce, in order to leverage our impact and influence; encourages and nurtures new business and entrepreneurs by providing start-up support and incentives and by maintaining our Entrepreneur Friendly designation; promotes a strong competitive work force, and by supporting efforts to link education, vocational and technical training to vocational opportunities in the county; cooperates with county government, education, law enforcement and social services groups to address community social problems that impact the business environment; and actively promotes and participates in Leadership Harris County and Youth Leadership.
